Bread In Common

I hardly travel to Fremantle unless it is for seafood or fish and chips. I realised that Fremantle is not only the home to seafood or fish and chips but it is also the home to many rustic, hip and chic cafes. Bread In Common is one of them. With the hanging lightbulbs, its rustic outlook and the long communal tables, it is definitely worth one’s visit. No reservations are required and walk-ins are perfectly fine.

When you are at Bread In Common, you can’t leave without ordering the bread! We had the Sourdough Wholemeal Bread ($2 per person) with a smoked zucchini and sesame dip ($3.50) which was recommended by our waitperson. The Wholemeal Bread was soft, fluffy and crispy around the outside. It complemented the smoked zucchini and sesame dip well, which was flavourful. We also shared the anchovy toast and egg yolk ($8). There is a perfect balance of anchovy on the toast and the flavours are not overpowering. The egg yolk was superb. It was very eggy, creamy and perfect for the anchovy toast.

For our mains we had the Lamb Ribs, mint, chili and black garlic ($19). The Lamb Ribs were marinated really well. The ribs were cooked perfectly and were very tender. Overall, the dish was full of flavour. How I wish I could have more!

We also had the Swordfish, braised chickpeas, tomato, kale and hummus ($28). The swordfish was cooked to perfection as it was soft and not too dry. With the braised chickpeas, tomato, kale and hummus decorated around the swordfish, it gave some colour and freshness to the dish with a Mediterranean touch.

We had the Mushroom, mozarella, spinach, eggplant spread toasted sandwiches ($12) to share. The bread was really good and it was toasted perfectly. Not too burnt for sure! The mozarella, which was very cheesy, complemented the mushrooms and spinach well along with the eggplant spread. It ain’t no ordinary sandwich when Bread in Common’s own bread is used.

To finish off, we shared a dessert which was the banana, meringue, rosemary and caramel. ($18) The dessert was really good! It seems like there were many things going on in the dish but it definitely all worked very well. I really like how the meringues are in little intricate crumbs too. A sweet finish to a delicious lunch!

My family and I really enjoyed Bread In Common a lot. I will be back to Bread In Common to try more dishes from their menu and I highly recommend it to my dear readers too. It is indeed a hidden gem along Packenham Street in Fremantle. Oh, and if you want to take home a piece of Bread In Common, they do sell bread for you to purchase too!

    • I read your post on Bread In Common too! The duck fat potatoes looks really good! Looks like I have to head back one day and order the duck fat potatoes and the bread too!! :)
